As a first responder and healthcare worker, Robyn was used to caring for others. Never did she imagine she would find herself a patient in the very hospital where she had worked.
After suffering from abdominal pain that came on suddenly, Robyn underwent not one, but two major gastrointestinal surgeries. This led to months of recovery, leaving her unable to work and facing financial uncertainty.
“If it weren’t for a coworker mentioning the Outer Banks Relief Foundation, I don’t know how I would have made it through financially during such a physically, mentally, and emotionally exhausting time.”
With help from the Relief Foundation, Robyn’s critical monthly bills — rent and car insurance — were taken care of, allowing her to focus on what mattered most: healing. Interfaith Community Outreach was also a partner, helping with phone bills, gas for her car, and an additional month’s rent.
“Thanks to the Outer Banks Relief Foundation and Interfaith Community Outreach, not only was I able to get through that difficult time, but I’ve made it my mission to pay it forward. I now refer others in need of help, and I’ve even become a volunteer myself.”
Today, Robyn is back to full health and work. She dedicates some of her free time to the Relief Foundation, organizing our other volunteers at community events that raise awareness and critical funds for the cause that is now so close to her heart. Additionally, Robyn was able to join the relief efforts in Western North Carolina, giving first responders and healthcare workers there a much-needed break.
Robyn enriches our community and state. We are inspired by her resilience, gratitude, and service.
