Karen’s recent health challenge began in early 2022 when she passed out at home. Karen, who at that time was 67 years old and lived by herself in Kill Devil Hills, needed to be flown to Greenville for medical treatment. She remained at East Carolina University Hospital for almost three months, regaining her strength and health.
In order to come home to the Outer Banks, Karen needed assistance cleaning her house which had been closed up for months after her sudden illness. She also needed reliable transportation so she could make frequent trips to Greenville to see her doctors.
A Dare County social worker referred Karen to the Outer Banks Relief Foundation and Interfaith Community Outreach who worked together to pay for critical repairs to Karen’s car as well as services to prepare her home for her return. Next, Interfaith Community Outreach provided intensive case management and funding to help Karen locate and move to a home that better meets her needs.
Now settled in Manteo and feeling good, Karen is full of gratitude for this “big help.” She wants everyone who supports the Outer Banks Relief Foundation and Interfaith Community Outreach to know what a critical difference they made to her when she needed it most.
