Dominion Energy through its charitable foundation today awarded grants to more than 200 nonprofit organizations in 13 states to help feed, house, and care for people in need. Totaling $1.6 million, the grants will support essential human services. This is the fifth year the company has awarded more than $1 million to meet critical community needs.

Interfaith Community Outreach, Inc. was awarded a $7,000 grant to be used to provide much needed service to help residents have access to health care and to provide cancer outreach for transportation, medical assistance, and other services for cancer clients.  ICO’s Mission is to provide assistance to residents facing a temporary emergency crisis in Dare and Currituck Counties, “bridging the gap in our community” where no one will face an emergency crisis alone.

“We are pleased to support our nonprofit partners as they work to make positive impacts in our communities,” said Hunter A. Applewhite, president of the Dominion Energy Charitable Foundation. “These grants are intended to support the most basic needs—food, shelter and medical care for our neighbors in need.”

If you are like us, Hurricane Dorian has you starting to prepare for the day when a storm heads our way. Dare County Emergency Management has some great tips on what to do before a storm hits. https://www.darenc.com/departments/emergency-management/before-an-emergency

And we have a tip, too: Consider a donation to our local disaster relief fund. Your gift today would help us build a small reserve so we can help immediately after a disaster hits.

Every donated penny gets used to help people in need on the Outer Banks—and only on the Outer Banks.

IF you would like to make a Disaster Donation please donate to OBCF Disaster Fund all money will stay in Dare County for Residents that need assistance. https://www.obcf.org/donate-now/

The Community Foundation is ready to help.

The Outer Banks Community Foundation is the official lead agency for the collection and disbursement of all public donations for disaster recovery in Dare County. In partnership with the County and Interfaith Community Outreach, we use 100% of all disaster relief donations to directly assist individuals and families on the Outer Banks. Every single penny donated goes directly to individuals in need. The Community Foundation helps with all disaster efforts, from immediate relief to long-term recovery, and even reconstruction and rebuilding.

In recent years, the Community Foundation has given more than $336,700 in Disaster Relief Fund grants to help families in Dare County get back on their feet in their greatest time of need. Donations to the Disaster Relief Fund have been used for emergency food, shelter, water, sanitation, supplies, and health care following Hurricanes Matthew, Irene, Sandy, Arthur, and Hermine.

The Disaster Relief Fund is ready and waiting so that we can respond immediately to emergency situations. However, donors can support this fund any time, not just when a disaster strikes.

If you wish to donate to the Disaster Relief Fund, please call us at 252-261-8839, or click here to donate securely online. Your donation is 100% tax-deductible.
