FFHS Raises Funds for ICO Cancer Outreach

Dare County Schools five volleyballs teams raised over $2500 for Cancer Outreach at their annual “Dig Pink” Breast Cancer Awareness Fundraiser. Through generous donations and t-shirt sales, the teams raised funds that will stay local and support Interfaith Community Outreach’s Cancer Outreach to aid Dare County Residents facing cancer diagnosis. This year is the 5th annual fundraiser, organized by Missy Edwards and Ellen Bryson, with a new t-shirt designed by local graphic artist and breast cancer survivor Susan Lawrence of Bold Print Designs. Each Dare County team hosted their own “Pink Out” game in support of families dealing with cancer and to raise awareness during October’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

This volleyball game between First Flight High School and Manteo High School took place on October 2, 2024, and the community showed up to support both teams and their donation efforts- with Manteo taking home the win. Interfaith Community Outreach staff says, “We would like to give a big thank you to the teams, family, and fans for the generous donation. Having community support means so much to all of us at ICO.” Interfaith Community Outreach’s Cancer Program helps to support local Dare County residents who are facing cancer diagnosis through financial support, transportation reimbursement, mental health counseling, and grief groups.
