ICO and Partners in the Community

This is how a community comes together to help one of their own: ICO and the Outer Banks Relief Foundation together with Church of the Outer Banks, business partners Macko Construction, Home Depot and Kellogg Supply worked to install a new fence for Frances Hughes, a 20+ year resident of Kill Devil Hills.

In 2013 Frances was diagnosed with cancer of the thyroid which she battled and beat.  In 2015, her husband, Ricky, was also diagnosed with stage IV brain cancer that spread through his body.  He fought for 2 years but was put in hospice care and passed away late last year.  The long years of their cancer journey and time spent away from their home placed a toll in Frances financially.  Her yard and fencing were damaged by Hurricane Matthew which she was unable to repair.  Her two dogs, Dutch and Tipsy, are her joyful companions.  A new fence was desperately needed for all of them.

You can see from these before and after photos what a difference can be made. Our thanks to Joe Gaca with Kellogg Supply who supplied all of the treated lumber, Home Depot who provided discounted fence and concrete material and John, owner of Macko Construction for organizing the project, from the amazing volunteers from “Church of the Outer Banks”, to John and staff for providing expert organization and installation of the fence.
